Tax Refunds Caught in Technology Snafu

News & Updatescranetaxlaw.com

ABC7 Chicago reported that thousands of Cook County property owners are still waiting on approximately $186 million in delayed property tax refunds. The delays are tied to a troubled software conversion involving Tyler Technologies, which implemented a new property tax system for the County.

The report states that roughly 83,000 taxpayers are affected, including individuals waiting on Certificates of Error, PTAB refunds, and other tax-related reimbursements. Some property owners have reportedly been waiting many months (in some cases nearly a year) for refunds totaling thousands of dollars.

Cook County officials, including Treasurer Maria Pappas and Board President Toni Preckwinkle, blamed problems with the rollout on missing or inaccurate data connected to the software upgrade. Tyler Technologies, however, disputes that characterization and says county agencies failed to provide complete and accurate information needed for implementation. Here at Crane & Norcross, we continue to fight for every refund still caught in the County’s web of bad decision making.  If you have any questions about anything related to property tax refunds, please contact us at info@cranetaxlaw.com or 312-726-9161.
